Religion in the Focus of Public Sphere<\/span><\/h1>\n

Interdisciplinary conferences and lectures since 2011<\/h3>\n

This pan-European project was initiated by our institute in 2010 and runs under our responsibility together with various cooperation partners since then. There has been a first international symposium at the University of Vienna in October, 2011.\u00a0The subject was \u201cZwischen Kruzifix und Minarett. Religion im Fokus der \u00d6ffentlichkeit\u201d.\u00a0All speeches of this symposium have already been published.\u00a0<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The second symposium of this series took place in Mai, 2014 at the Protestant Academy of Berlin. This time, the subject was mainly religion in schools. In the future a<\/span>\u00a0third symposium is expected in Bucharest on the relationship between religion and a nation regarding the orthodox church, followed by another later in Ankara on the issue of secular societies in Islamic context.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, several public events take place as part of our project, like the speech by the former Vice president of the Bundestag, Dr. h.c. Wolfgang Thierse, on \u201cReligion ist keine Privatsache\u201d in June 2013 in Vaduz. The same was with regard to an interdisciplinary conference in September 2015 on “Europ\u00e4ische Kulturk\u00e4mpfe und ihre gegenw\u00e4rtige Bedeutung” and the lecture by the former President of the Bundestag Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert in Frankfurt a.M.<\/p>\n

Kaum eine Woche vergeht, in der nicht \u00fcber einen neuen “Kulturkampf” oder Religionskrieg berichtet wird. Die mediale Pr\u00e4senz des Themas belegt, wie aktuell das Problem ist. Doch bereits im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert kam es in Europa zu “Kulturkampf” genannten Konflikten zwischen Staat und Kirche, die keineswegs auf Preu\u00dfen und die 1870er\/80er Jahre beschr\u00e4nkt waren. Sie begannen vielmehr im deutschen Vorm\u00e4rz und reichten in einigen europ\u00e4ischen L\u00e4ndern bis weit ins 20. Jahrhundert. Ob das “Zeitalter der europ\u00e4ischen Kulturk\u00e4mpfe” (Manuel Borutta) tats\u00e4chlich beendet ist, erscheint angesichts der j\u00fcngsten Weltanschauungskonflikte als eine offene Frage. Der Band untersucht die Auseinandersetzungen zwischen Staat und Religionsgemeinschaften w\u00e4hrend des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts in Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich, den Niederlanden und der Schweiz.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
